About the team

Founder and Principal Analyst Omar Akhtar leads the team of researchers, analysts and creatives at Benchmarker. Omar has been publishing research and advising companies on marketing excellence for the last decade.

He is the former head of research at Altimeter, a Prophet Company where he published leading research reports on the State of Digital Transformation, the State of Digital Marketing and the State of Digital Content.

As an Associate Partner at Prophet, he advised Fortune 500 companies on how to assess and improve their marketing, data and content capabilities, with clients including Microsoft, Salesforce, Adobe, Netflix, Autodesk, Cigna, Zebra Technologies, Marriott International, UPS and the American Red Cross.

Before Altimeter, Omar was the editor-in-chief of The Hub (now DMNews.com) and a writer at Fortune Magazine. He has frequently served as a moderator and speaker at events and panels on marketing and technology, and quoted as a technology expert in leading publications, including National Public Radio, CNET, Forbes, Digiday, TechCrunch, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Omar is the a co-author of the best-selling book “Winning Through Platforms - How To Succeed When Everyone Has One” a playbook on how to become, and win as a platform business.
